“Their fashion has had a HUGE impact on pop culture.”
Nadine Ellis (she was one of the dancers on Aaliyah’s Rock The Boat video) shares her memories of Aaliyah on Wendy Williams show.
Yes, as I mentioned I did see Aaliyah in concert in 1997 for Grad Nite for high school seniors. I vaguely remember the concert though. See, I didn’t get into her music until college. I did not like the work she had with R. Kelly; I liked more of her work with Timbaland and Missy. Thus, by the time I got into her music (“Are You That Somebody” is what did it for me; that is my SONG!), that concert had passed. I do remember her being incredibly beautiful and put on a pretty good show.
She ended up passing away only a couple of months after I graduated college and my own mom passed away around the same time and it was just an incredibly sad time for me. But her music is really great and I love her later in life music the most. She was truly special and her music was like a part of my coming into adulthood soundtrack in the way Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was. Good stuff.
When you smile, I smile.
